Opaque, the Viking is taciturn with high cheekbones and a strong jaw.  Its chunky concentration is balanced with firm acidity, lively red berry flavors and nuances of fine Madagascar dark chocolate.  With aeration there is the perfume of wild blackberries, violets, underlying minerality and a dramatic long and lingering finish.

92 points, Wine Advocate, Robert M. Parker, Jr. (August 2010, #190): “…big, full-bodied, broad…layered, very impressive…”

92 points, Connoisseurs' Guide (7/10): “...fine sense of balance, this rich, very well-crafted wine offers up layered aromas and flavors of ripe berries and creamy oak with subtle accents of dried-flowers and spice. It is so supple to start that it feigns early softness, but it firms up as it goes, and its long, wellfruited finish is underlain by mannerly structural tannins."

91 points, Wine Enthusiast (February 2011).“One of the better wineries in Paso Robles, Adelaida continues to turn out high quality wines that remain realistically priced. Kudos to winemaker Terry Culton…”

91 points, Stephen Tanzer’s International Wine Cellar (Nov./Dec. 2010): “…Strongly perfumed bouquet of smoky blackberry, blueberry, violet and sexy oak…this will age well.”
