Rich, dark and complex, with soft tannins and mouth-filling flavor. Blueberry, blackberry, and crème de cassis dominate the aromas and flavors, giving way to coffee and crushed stones.
According to the winery, their Petit Verdot was so complex and powerful in 2004 that they made the decision to add it to the Cabernet Sauvignon blend, even though all previous vintages had been 100% Cabernet Sauvignon. Final blend 97.7% Cabernet Sauvignon, 2.3% Petit Verdot.
91 points, Wine Spectator (December 15, 2007): “Bold, nutty, yeasty aromas mix with ripe pear and citrus notes … the finish is rich and distinctive.”
91 points, Connoisseurs' Guide (Dec. 07): “In the continuing debate over restraint and purity, this wine will get absolutely pilloried in some quarters because it is too enjoyable too soon. The “smaller is better crowd” will say it has too much volume, it has too much richness, and it has too much “big blouse” as one winemaker said the other day about such soy, tangy lemons, freshly baked crusty bread and a quiet hint of ginger ale, and its impeccably balanced flavors follow suit from front to back. Brisk and austere, yet compelling in its layered richness, this one will keep in bottle for a few years and may improve a bit as well.”
This wine was recently featured in The California Wine Club's wine of the month club.
