This is a classic cool climate Syrah with a combination of red and black fruits and hints of white pepper. The Amber Ridge Vineyard is located west of the Sonoma County airport in the “upper reach” of the Russian River Valley.
91 points, The Connoisseurs' Guide (March 2008): “Ripe enough to find both fruit and concentration on its side of the ledger, this well mannered bottling focuses keenly on blackberries and a rich, black soil along with whiffs of green peppercorns and a slight stemmy element. It is not as heavy or bold as some will want their Syrahs to be, yet its fruit is solid from front to back with no quit to it even as firming acids and a smattering of latter palate tannins make themselves known in the fairly accessible and tasty finish. Good value.”
A mere 150 cases were made, extremely limited.
This wine was recently featured our wine of the month club.
