A bold and expressive wine with intense flavors and aromas of blackberry jam, dried flowers, crème de cassis, licorice and toasted oak.  Sweet tannins and a velvety texture persist across the mid-palate to provide a wonderfully balanced and lengthy finish.

93 points, The Wine Advocate (#196, Aug. 2011): " The 2008 Pedestal Merlot is fashioned by the peripatetic Michel Rolland. Made up of 81% Merlot, 12% Cabernet Sauvignon, with the balance Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, it was aged for 22 months in 85% new French oak..."

93 points, International Wine Cellar (Nov./Dec. 2013): " Good bright, dark red with ruby highlights.  Sexy black raspberry, cherry and chocolate on the nose..."

92 points, Wine Spectator (Nov. 30, 2011): " Firm in texture, with a moderate grip of tannins surrounding dark berry, black currant and licorice flavors, lingering gently and persistently..."

91 points, Wine Enthusiast (Feb. 1, 2012): " An unusually tight Pedestal, this absolutely must be decanted..."

91 points, Connoisseurs' Guide (Sept. 12): "From its complex aromas of dark cherries, cassis, woodsy spice and caramel to its very deep and generously filled flavors, Pedestal's latest is a study in keen composition..."
