Refined but assertive. Powerful ripe aromas of smoky cedar, vanilla, and dark chocolate are underpinned by the full fruit character of Bing cherries and black raspberries. Big, rich, and somewhat gamey on the palate, the dark fruit, cherry liquor, and spice flvaors persist in a long finish enveloped in delicious vanilla and sandalwood flavors infused by the judicious use of French oak aging.
95 points, Connoisseurs' Guide (Sept. 12): "...It lacks for nothing by way of ripeness yet is never close to being over the top, and it is, in fact, one of the trimmer and more tailored wines to be found in Ravenswood's 2009 portfolio. It is solid and balanced and shows exceptional finishing length, and, like the best of its mates, it is well worth waiting for. Moreover, this is the wine that is most likely to find world-class character as it ages.”
94 points, Stephen Tanzer’s International Wine Cellar (May/Jun. 2011): “Inky ruby. A wild, kaleidoscopic bouquet of red and dark fruit scents, along with intense floral and spice qualities and underlying minerality..."
Very Good + (91 points), Ken's Wine Guide, (March 2, 2012): "This dark ruby colored high-end Zinfandel opens with a fragrant ripe red raspberry and boysenberry bouquet. On the palate, this wine is medium bodied, nicely balanced, juicy and savory. The flavor profile is a very tasty mild oak influenced plum with hints of minerality, gentle blackberry and subtle black licorice. The finish is dry and its very moderate tannins are very dusty and stick around for quite some time. This impressive Zin is not your typical fruit bomb. Instead it is very food friendly and would pair well with a cowboy cut ribeye. Enjoy." –Ken
