The nose is defined by black fruit, bay leaves and chocolate. The luscious mouth is highlighted with raspberry and blackberry. Subtle notes of tobacco, smoke and earth dance in the background, deriving from the Hillspring soil itself. Spice and black pepper give way to a lingering finish.
95 points, Wine Enthusiast (Mar. 1, 2013): "“...Blended with a little Petit Verdot and Malbec it slowly reveals massive layers of blackberries, cassis liqueur and dark chocolate, remaining stubbornly tight throughout..."
95 points, Connoisseurs' Guide (Dec. 12): "... the 2007 “HaLo” is a striking wine of real complexity and nuance. It teams plentiful, keenly defined, curranty, varietal fruit with sweet and wonderfully sympathetic oak spice, and its impressions of richness are matched by those of particularly fine balance."
Winemaker Note: Please decant before serving.
Food Pairing: HÄLo should be reserved for the finest cuts of full-flavored beef and game. If serving with cheese, Piave Vecchio is a great match along with a medium ripe Brie or Manchego.
