Avelina Wine Company
The name "Avelina" comes from a small village in Italy where Christian Garvin's family immigrated from in the last century. Small and remote, the climate there mimics the Mediterranean climate of California's Central Coast.
The fabulous wines we featured:
2011 Santa Barbara County "LUCCA"
- 90 points, "Editor's Choice", Wine Enthusiast
- Final Blend: 70% Sangiovese, 5% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Barbera and 20% Nebbiolo
Tasting Notes: Rich, ripe and seductive, this wine offers a lovely range of plum, blueberry, raspberry and cream flavors. A floral hint in the background lingers on the generous finish against polished tannins.
2012 Santa Barbara County Pinot Grigio
- Silver Medal, Central Coast Wine Competition
Tasting Notes: Fresh floral aromas lead to a creamy palate offering an array of candied apple, almond, dried papaya, Danish pastry and grated coconut. The smoky undertow gains momentum on the lingering finish making this a Pinot Grigio to remember.
Winemaker's Notes
The Lucca is a classic Italian-style blend with a California twist. It has the legendary flavor profile of Super Tuscans and Chiantis, but doesn't bring along the sometimes harsh tannins that its Old World cousins often do. The Pinot Grigio is fruity, with dollops of peach, melon and apricot, along with a beautiful viscosity and silky mouth feel. - Christian Garver
