91 points, Connoisseurs' Guide (Nov. 13): "Yet another success from Red Car in its refined, fairly deep yet entirely mannerly style, this wine sports dark berry fruit with spicy and oaky notes, and it comes across as a touch drier and tighter in direction than its mate above yet never fails to be on-point as to variety. Its supple beginnings and slight roundness in texture invite a second glance, and there is nothing about the wine to dissuade a third. Firm at the back, it will reward three to six years of quiet cellaring."
90 points, International Wine Cellar (May/June 2013): "Deep ruby. Dark cherry and blackberry aromas are complicated by notes of cured meat, pipe tobacco and licorice. Deep cherry compote and chewing tobacco flavors show good depth and gain sweetness with air. Smoky herb and bitter cherry flavors dominate the focused, juicy finish, which featured fine-grained tannins."
