Get To Know Greg Martellotto of Santa Barbara's Martellotto Wines

Founder of Martellotto Wines, Greg Martellotto

Our Premier Series feature this month is Martellotto Wine Productions, based in Santa Barbara’s Santa Ynez Valley. For founder Greg Martellotto, family winemaking dates back to 17th Century southern Italy. He continued the tradition, and the development of his palate, with years of adventurous international wine exploration.

Along the way, Greg developed three wine businesses: One Vine (import and distribution); Martellotto Wine Productions (Santa Barbara winery); and Big Hammer Wines (an online wine store).

Greg focuses on outstanding Central Coast vineyards for his Martellotto bottlings, and prides himself on the value they offer. Case in point: our selected 2012 Paso Robles Red Blend. “A Cab or even a Cab blend like this would typically be a $40+ wine, so this is a great value for the club.”

What has surprised him about winery ownership? The patience required. “Harvest is only once a year. And the process is long. A Cab from start to finish will take several years. Winemaking has an unusually long production and sales cycle. I don’t think there are many products in the world that are like that. It’s unique.

So, I look at my winery as a long-term investment. It’s capital intense, with long lead-times and lots of planning. Nevertheless, I find it very rewarding. I love to produce a wine and see it on the table, as it was at the Santa Barbara Wine Auction, right there beside the Sanfords, the Lindquists and Clendenens, famous Santa Barbara names for 20+ years.”

This month, experience Martellotto wines packed with value, from some of the Central Coast’s top vineyards and a winemaker proud of his pour.

This is the second order I placed thru Vivino which ultimatly went back to Martellotto and I had to seend an inquiry. The last one came over a month later. I expected this before Xmas Please advise.

      Hi Joe,

It appears from your message that the wine order you placed was not through The California Wine Club. We have no record of ever receiving any orders from you. You would need to follow up with Vivino.com regarding orders placed through Vivino. If you have no luck there, we recommend reaching out directly to Bighammerwines.com.
I am sorry we are not able to help you with this.
Best wishes for a swift resolution!
      Cheers!

Congratulations on the Best Red and Double Gold awards at the Global Wine Awards. I’m an EO Member as well in Atlanta and saw that you were mentioned in Members in the Media EO.
I have a question and favor if possible that regards your wines. I’m going to be in Pebble Beach for a 60th Birthday party starting the 16th of October.
I would love to buy a 12 pack of the wine and have t shipped to the place were staying while in Pebble Beach. I’m not sure you have any to sell but would be most appreciative if you do.
The other ask is that if you could ship to the residence we will be staying?
I would also like to know if you sell to Georgia? Only because I have 5 restaurants and would like to push your great wines.

    Sincerely,
