Ever heard of Napa Valley’s “ghost wineries”? Some have hauntings for sure, but usually the term relates to the fact these wineries fell into disrepair and disuse before or during Prohibition, and were only “brought back to life” in the ’60s and ’70s.

But Napa isn’t the only place for haunted ghost wineries. Get spooky with these examples from Missouri, Virginia and New York.

Built in 1923, Belvoir’s property spans approximately 240 acres. It used to include a former orphanage, nursing home, hospital and a cemetery. Witnesses to paranormal activity here report growling, singing and being hugged. One server reported that his toddler daughter was talking to someone in another room – he heard a male voice –only to find thin air. Ready to trick or treat here? Around Halloween, Belvoir offers ghost tours and All Night Paranormal Investigation events.  The winery was featured on the Syfy channel’s “Ghost Hunters” show.

Avoid Marjim Manor on Thursdays at 3:00 pm. At that exact time, several people have died here. Could it be at the hands of the haunted? The original owner who bought the place in 1834, Shubal Scudder Merritt, was cleaning his gun when his son Lewis walked up to the French door. The gun accidentally discharged, killing Lewis … at 3pm on a Thursday. Every day thereafter, the father would walk through the house calling for his son—and on Thursdays at 3pm, the French doors would swing open.

Schubel later died at 3pm on a Thursday (accounts of that vary-but it was definitely at 3pm Thursday). Phoebe Sophia Merritt and her husband Lucius Adam moved in, renovated – and Phoebe died when the French doors burst open – at 3pm on a Thursday.

We could go on, but you get the idea – and chills, right?!

Zephaniah Farm Vineyards’ manor house was built in Leesburg in 1830. It is said that Mattie Nixon, who bought the place in 1903, comes out to haunt when couples visit who are about to get married – and shouldn’t. She has her reasons; she married a veterinarian who ended up killing a tenant farmer because he mistakenly let the cows loose.

It doesn’t make for great vibes in a house when a mentally unstable family member is confined to the attic. His name was Benedict Rust. He apparently was the one who was stomping through the upstairs so loud, the new owners called 911. The 208-year-old manor, now a winery site, offers “History & Hauntings” events with dinner and candlelight house tours from Halloween through Spring. Boo! With wine!
