If you are feeling adventurous, we invite you to discover some unusual ways to take in the sights and flavors of California’s wine country.
By Gondola
After a day of Napa winery visits, head downtown to take a serene, romantic candlelit glide down the Napa River in an authentic Venetian gondola. Bring a favorite bottle to savor while the gondolier serenades you with Italian songs. Napa Valley Gondola Tours are private, relaxing, scenic, and memorable.
Insider Tip:
After your Italian-style boat ride, complete the Italian mood with a stop at nearby Ca’Momi Osteria for dinner. Their pizza is made with strict adherence to Vera Pizza Napoletana guidelines, cooked for 90 seconds in their 900 degree wood burning oven. Plus they import their pizza flour from Italy!
By Horseback
Say giddy-up to a one-of-a kind trail ride ending with a delicious wine
tasting at Maurice Car’rie Vineyard and Winery in Temecula. Seasoned
tour guides from Wine Country Trails by Horseback will lead you through beautiful vineyards on gentle, well-trained horses (many of the horses are rehabilitated rescues, enjoying a second chance at life).
Insider Tip:
Be sure to try the sourdough bread filled with brie at Maurice Car’rie. Perfect to share with friends (it feeds about 4-6 people). It’s cheesy and garlicky and delicious!
By Vintage Jeep:
Thrill on a fast-paced (and bumpy) excursion, complete with a wine tasting at Steinbeck Vineyards and Winery. The scenic and educational tours of their vineyard are led by members of the Steinbeck family. They have been farming in Paso Robles for seven generations–135 years! They repurposed the family’s 1921-built blacksmith shop as the tasting room.
Insider Tip:
Ask for Cri-Cri the Wine Dog to come along and help guide your tour!
Insider Tip #2:
Enjoy a post-tour dinner at Catch Seafood Bar and Grill in downtown Paso. Sit at the bar and you can watch the the chefs prepare the delicious food.
By Foot
Santa Barbara’s Funk Zone boasts 20+ tasting rooms, great restaurants and
interesting shops, making it a must-stop for wine lovers. Though vineyards don’t crowd up to the coastline, this Urban Wine Trail does. With winery tasting rooms clustered together, it’s easy to explore some of the best California pours by foot. Finish with a stop at Conway Family Wines’ Deep Sea Tasting Room, the only tasting room on Stearns Wharf pier.
Insider Tip:
Visit Margerum Wine Company’s new tasting room at Hotel Californian and try their Amaro Ice Cream!
